My chapter, “Sweet Surrender: Turning Pain into Passion,” shares the most devastating experience of my life—the loss of my beautiful daughter, Rebecca. Here is a sneak peek of my story:
The moment the doctor uttered those words, my world collapsed. Rebecca was brain-dead—a heart attack had taken everything. In that instant, the ICU became a prison, drowning me with the weight of finality. Hope shattered as I faced not only the loss of my daughter but of the future she had so eagerly looked forward to. Amidst our family’s grief, I stepped into the role of caregiver one last time, making the hardest decision of all: to fulfil Rebecca’s wish to help others through organ and tissue donation. With trembling hands, I kissed her goodbye and preserved a lock of her hair—my last physical keepsake of her.
My story is one of resilience, transformation, and legacy—not only surviving unimaginable grief but choosing to create meaning from it.
